Beyond the Screen: Innovations in Screenless Display Systems

Abstract | This report presents an overview of screenless display technology, an emerging innovation aimed at transforming digital interaction by eliminating the need for traditional physical screens such as LCDs or projectors. The technology enables visual content to be projected directly onto the human retina, into open space, or interfaced with the human brain, offering a highly immersive and private viewing experience. Screenless displays are designed to be lightweight and portable, making them ideal for applications in wearable technology, augmented reality, and hands-free operations. Key areas of application include healthcare, education, industrial environments, entertainment, and defense, where enhanced privacy, energy efficiency, and real-time data accessibility are crucial. The report also explores the underlying technologies—such as retinal projection, holography, and brain-computer interfaces—and discusses the potential and challenges associated with their development. As research progresses, screenless display technology is poised to play a significant role in the future of human-computer interaction. |
