Micromorphology and Morphometric Discrimination of Murraya Koenigii and Cinnamomum Malabatrum Pollen Grains: A Multivariate Palynological Approach

Author(s) Dr. Alexander T
Country India
Abstract Pollen morphology provides reliable species-level diagnostic characters because pollen traits are genetically conserved and morphologically distinct across angiosperms. Advances in SEM have greatly enhanced the resolution at which exine ornamentation, aperture structure, and pollen shape can be examined for taxonomic purposes. Rutaceae and Lauraceae often exhibit overlapping vegetative traits, making palynological analysis especially important for differentiating species such as Murraya koenigii and Cinnamomum malabatrum. Despite their ecological, medicinal, and aromatic significance, a comparative micromorphological and morphometric evaluation of their pollen grains has not been conducted. This study integrates SEM imaging, quantitative morphometrics, P/E ratio assessment, and multivariate statistics to provide a comprehensive understanding of species-level pollen discrimination.
