HR Practices for Managing Occupational Stress: A Comprehensive Literature Review

Author(s) Aishwarya Mane, Dr. Swati Vijay
Country India
Abstract This research paper presents a systematic and comprehensive literature review of Human Resource (HR) practices aimed at mitigating occupational stress within the specific socio-economic context of Pune City, Maharashtra. As a premier industrial and IT hub, Pune exhibits unique workplace dynamics that necessitate specialized HR interventions. The study explores 15 critical pieces of literature from 2000 to August 2025, focusing on various sectors including Information Technology, Manufacturing, and Healthcare. The methodology employs an integrative literature review framework to synthesize qualitative and quantitative findings. Key findings indicate that while Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) and flexible work arrangements are widely promoted, their effectiveness is often hindered by cultural stigma and sectoral rigidities. The analysis highlights a significant gap in the implementation of "mindful leadership" and long-term psychological support in the manufacturing belts of Chakan and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The study concludes that for HR practices to be truly effective in Pune, they must transition from generic wellness initiatives to context-aware, culturally sensitive interventions that address the specific stressors of urban Indian corporate life.
