| Abstract | The Indian banking sector has undergone substantial transformation driven by rapid financial innovation, technological advancement, and evolving customer expectations. This empirical study examines the relationship between financial innovation and financial performance of selected private sector banks in India over the period 2017-2025. Financial innovation encompasses digital banking platforms, mobile banking applications, fintech collaborations, artificial intelligence integration, unified payments interface adoption, and automated service delivery mechanisms. The study analyzes key performance indicators including Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), Net Interest Margin (NIM), and Cost-to-Income Ratio for five major private sector banks: HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and IndusInd Bank. Using panel data regression analysis and financial innovation indices constructed through principal component analysis, the findings reveal that private sector banks demonstrate significantly higher innovation adoption rates and superior performance outcomes compared to public sector counterparts. The results indicate positive correlations between financial innovation metrics and profitability indicators, with digital transformation contributing to enhanced operational efficiency, expanded customer base, and improved competitive positioning. However, the study also identifies that innovation effectiveness depends on complementary factors including organizational agility, infrastructure readiness, regulatory support, and customer digital literacy. The research contributes to understanding innovation-driven growth in emerging market banking systems and provides actionable insights for policymakers, bank management, and financial technology providers aiming to enhance resilience and competitiveness in India's evolving banking ecosystem. |
