| Abstract | Intravenous (IV) medication administration is commonly used in hospitals because it allows rapid drug action and accurate control of dosing. However, since medications enter the bloodstream directly, the IV route carries a higher risk of serious consequences if errors occur during preparation or administration. IV medication errors remain an important patient safety concern worldwide. Contributing factors include complex dose calculations, incorrect dilution, heavy workload, and lack of standardised administration protocols. As nurses are primarily responsible for IV drug preparation and administration, their knowledge and adherence to safe practices are essential. Strengthening medication safety requires evidence-based protocols, regular training, and effective clinical guidelines to minimise the risk of IV medication errors and improve patient outcomes. |
