| Abstract | Building work plays a central role in shaping the economy of the United Arab Emirates. Behind every road, bridge, or tower stands the effort of manual workers. Projects on a massive scale depend largely on people who move here from places like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal. A large share of those building cities comes from these regions. Even so, their vital efforts go hand-in-hand with deep struggles outside the job site. Difficult living conditions, separation from family, and limited access to services weigh heavily. These pressures shape daily life - and spill into performance on site. When personal hardship grows, energy at work fades. Firms supplying manpower feel shifts in output and cost. Worker strain echoes through business outcomes, quietly altering results. |
