Business Engagement In Violence Prevention And Peacebuilding: The Case Of Kenya (2007–2013)

Author(s) Mr. Adam Mukanjor Njolnbi
Country Turkey
Abstract The paper examines the significant yet often overlooked role of Kenya’s private sector in reducing electoral violence between 2007 and 2013. Using a qualitative case study approach, it shows that business actors engaged in peacebuilding due to a mix of ethical commitments, economic interests, and stakeholder pressures. They utilized their resources, networks, and influence to support dialogue, media campaigns, and community stabilization efforts. The findings highlight that businesses can act as important political and social agents in conflict settings. Overall, the Kenyan case demonstrates how private sector involvement can complement state and civil society initiatives in promoting peace.
