Abstract This research paper explores the ancient Indian governance system, focusing on the administrative structures, texts, and the ethical responsibilities of rulers. Ancient India had a well-organized governance model influenced by Dharma as outlined in texts like the Arthashastra, Manusmriti, and Shanti Parva of the Mahabharata. The study examines the roles of kings, ministers, and councils, as well as the principles of justice, welfare, and military administration. The paper concludes by analyzing the principles of Dharma (righteousness), Danda (punishment), and Yogakshema (public welfare). The paper concludes by assessing the relevance of ancient Indian governance in modern political systems, emphasizing ethical leadership, decentralized administration, and justice.
