| Abstract | Network resilience, a critical attribute of modern communication systems, embodies the capacity of a network to maintain acceptable levels of service in the face of disruptions, failures, and attacks. This research paper provides a comprehensive examination of network resilience, a critical attribute for modern digital infrastructures. It defines network resilience in contrast to related concepts such as reliability, availability, robustness, and fault tolerance, emphasizing its proactive and adaptive dimensions. The paper categorizes the diverse causes of network disruptions, including cyberattacks, hardware and software failures, human error, and natural disasters, highlighting the increasing complexity introduced by supply chain vulnerabilities and critical infrastructure interdependencies. Real-world incidents and case studies illustrate the profound impact of network failures across various sectors. Finally, the paper investigates emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and quantum networking, and their implications for future resilience strategies, advocating for a fundamental shift towards a "resilience-by-design" paradigm. |
