| Abstract | To achieve a zero waste goal and a sustainable lifecycle management, the paper documents a report of thedevelopment done in the recycling of the solar photovoltaic (PV) panels in technologically, environmentally and policy approach. It argues that the rapidly expanding world P V capacity will generate20-30 million tons of garbage by the year 2050 hence, a menace to the resource depletion and pollution incase the panels are not recovered by simply landfilling them. The article opens with a discussion of the structure of the crystalline silicon module and the composition followed by the traditional mechanical, thermal and chemical methods of recycling the modules andprovides the average recovery rates, the amount of energy used in the process and problems that comeabout in the process of obtaining high purity of silicon and Silver. |
