Repositioning Kiswahili as a Lingua Franca for African Integration and Global Visibility: A Scoping Review

Author(s) Mr. Kizito Innocent Innocent Lawa, Monica William Manyanga
Country Tanzania
Abstract Kiswahili has systematically evolved from a localized East African coastal dialect into a macro-language of paramount continental and global significance. While its recent formal adoption as an official operational language by supranational bodies like the African Union and UNESCO presents historic policy horizons, structural challenges remain. Symbolic declaration does not automatically translate into routine functional execution across institutional, economic, educational, and digital domains.
Keywords Kiswahili; African integration; lingua franca; multilingualism; language policy; digital language resources; PRISMA-ScR.
