A Cross-Sectional Study Assessing Compliance with Mass Drug Administration for Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination in the Rural Field Practice Area, Telangana.

Abstract BACKGROUND : . In India, MDA coverage has been reported between 48.8% and 98.8%, while compliance ranged from 20.8% to 93.7%. Despite numerous rounds of mass drug administration, LF continues to be endemic in the Sangareddy and Mahabubabad districts of Telangana . Hence the compliance of the MDA program has been assessed in Rural Field-Practice area under RHC- Patancheru, Sangareddy district and explored the factors affecting it.
OBJECTIVE :
1. To study the socio demographic factors of all the participants of MDA program.
2. To assess the compliance and its determinants of non-compliance of mass drug administration.
METHDOLOGY :
STUDY DESIGN : Cross-Sectional Study
STUDY AREA : Rural Field Practice area of Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, Telangana.
STUDY PERIOD : From August 10th 2025 – November 30th 2025
STUDY POPULATION : House-holds in Rural field practice area – RHC Patancheru
SAMPLE SIZE : 736
SAMPLING METHOD : Systematic Random Sampling.
STUDY TOOL : Pre Structured Questionnaire was used for data collection.
DATA COLLECTION : Data is collected using the questionnaire after taking the consent of the study participants.
ANALYSIS : Collected Data is analyzed using SPSS version 22.
RESULTS : A total of 736 individuals were surveyed and the coverage for MDA was 88.85% compliance was 93.11% and effective coverage was 82.74%. Fear of side effects (48.81%) and didn’t feel the need to take the drugs (18.89%) were the most common quoted reason for not consuming drugs.
