| Abstract | Obesity has emerged as one of the most significant public health challenges of the twenty-first century, contributing substantially to metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and reduced quality of life. Conventional obesity management primarily focuses on caloric restriction, pharmacotherapy, and bariatric interventions; however, long-term sustainability remains a challenge. Ayurveda conceptualizes obesity as Sthaulya or Medoroga, a disorder characterized by excessive accumulation of Meda Dhatu (adipose tissue), impaired Agni (metabolic fire), and imbalance of Kapha Dosha. Panchakarma, the principal bio-purificatory therapy of Ayurveda, offers a comprehensive and individualized approach to correcting metabolic disturbances through detoxification, dosha balancing, and rejuvenation. |
