CSR and Social Justice: An Ambedkarite Perspective on Responsible Business, Gender Equality and Inclusion in India

Author(s) Dr. Agnivesh Pandey, Prof. Dr. Birendra Narain Dubey
Country India
Abstract Corporate Social Responsibility is a mechanism through which businesses contribute to social development by addressing issues of inequality and exclusion. However, conventional approaches have been based on charity and philanthropy, focusing on social development without addressing the structural dimensions of social inequality. This paper examines CSR from an Ambedkarite perspective, arguing that CSR can not only be seen as a tool for advancing social development but can also be advanced as an instrument for social justice, equality, and inclusive development. Drawing upon Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s ideas of equality, dignity, education, economic empowerment, and the eradication of caste-based discrimination, this study critically examines the possibilities and limitations of CSR practices in women’s empowerment in contemporary India. It explores how CSR can address the issue of structural disadvantages faced by women, particularly those arising from social, economic, educational, and caste-based inequalities.
