The Concept of Organisational Kinetics: a Multidimensional Theoretical Framework

Author(s) Dr. OYEINKORIKIYE STEPHAN ISAIAH
Country Nigeria
Abstract Organisations nowadays operate in volatile, uncertain, complex, and multifaceted environments that demand continuous adaptation and responsiveness. Although existing theories, such as organisational change, dynamic capabilities, and organisational agility, have advanced understanding of transformation processes, they remain fragmented and insufficient for explaining organisational movement as a continuous phenomenon. This paper develops the concept of organisational kinetics as a unifying theoretical framework for understanding the dynamics of organisational change. Drawing inspiration from the scientific concept of kinetics, the study conceptualises organisations as dynamic systems driven by interacting forces that determine the speed, direction, and intensity of organisational movement. The framework proposes four interrelated dimensions: adaptive velocity, interactional flow, structural flexibility, and energetic alignment. The paper argues that organisational change should be understood as continuous motion rather than as a series of discrete events. The study concludes that organisational kinetics provides a holistic lens for explaining how organisations generate, sustain, and redirect movement through the interaction of adaptive, communicative, structural, and human forces. The framework contributes to organisational theory by integrating behavioural, structural, and communicative perspectives into a unified model and provides a foundation for future empirical research.
