Abstract This research examines Githa Hariharan's The Ghost of Vasu Master as a late-bildungsroman of a 62-year-old retired teacher. Declared a failure by his family and society, Vasu confronts the ghosts of his father, student, and wife. The study uses Hauntology to show how indigenous storytelling becomes his therapy and redefines Indian middle-class notions of success.
