| Abstract | Small businesses constitute an important component of economic development, employment generation and local entrepreneurship. However, the increasing pace of digital transformation has created both opportunities and challenges for small business enterprises. Technologies such as cloud computing, digital payment systems, social media, e-commerce platforms, enterprise software, data analytics and artificial intelligence can improve operational efficiency, customer engagement and managerial decision-making. Despite these potential benefits, many small businesses continue to face difficulties in adopting and effectively using digital technologies because of financial constraints, inadequate technological knowledge, limited human resources, cybersecurity concerns and resistance to organizational change. The present study examines the determinants of technology adoption in small business management and evaluates its perceived influence on business performance. The study develops an integrated conceptual framework based primarily on the Technology–Organization–Environment (TOE) framework and complementary insights from the Diffusion of Innovation perspective. Technological readiness, perceived relative advantage, compatibility, organizational readiness, top-management support, employee digital capability, financial resources, competitive pressure and government support are considered important determinants of technology adoption. The study further proposes that effective technology adoption contributes to operational efficiency, customer service, innovation capability and overall business performance. The research is designed as a quantitative empirical study involving small business owners and managers. Data may be collected through a structured questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale and analysed through descriptive statistics, reliability and validity testing, correlation analysis and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The proposed framework seeks to provide useful implications for small business owners, policymakers, financial institutions and technology providers. Recent research similarly indicates that SME adoption is influenced by technological, organizational and environmental conditions rather than by a single factor. |
