Between Vigilance and Hope: Family Experiences of Supporting Young Adults Recovering from Substance Use in Harare, Zimbabwe

Abstract	Substance use among young people has become an increasingly visible public-health and social concern in Zimbabwe. Economic insecurity, unemployment, changing drug markets, and gaps in specialist services create a setting in which families frequently carry much of the day-to-day responsibility for responding to harmful substance use and supporting recovery (Mukwenha et al., 2022). Zimbabwean research has also linked young people’s substance use to family and social circumstances, reinforcing the importance of understanding recovery within relational and community systems rather than solely as an individual clinical process (Maziya et al., 2023).
