| Abstract | Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) are crucial for corporate growth strategies, allowing companies to broaden their market presence, improve operational efficiencies, and secure competitive advantages. This paper examines M&A from a financial perspective, analysing its impact on firm valuation, shareholder wealth, and long-term financial performance. It explores key financial drivers, including synergy realisation, cost efficiencies, and revenue growth, while also addressing the risks associated with integration challenges and market reactions. The study reviews empirical evidence and theoretical frameworks to assess the effectiveness of M&A as a growth strategy. Findings suggest that while M&A can create substantial value when executed strategically, challenges such as cultural integration, regulatory constraints, and financial mismanagement may hinder success. The paper concludes by highlighting best practices for maximising financial gains and mitigating risks in M&A transactions. The study adopts a mixed-methods approach, integrating both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The primary data has been collected with interviews & surveys conducted with investment bankers, corporate executives, financial analysts, and policymakers to gain insights, and the secondary data retrieved from Financial Statements & Annual Reports collected from corporate disclosures of acquiring and target firms (SEBI, NSE, BSE). The study covered M&A deals using Event Study Methodology to analyse long-term trends focusing on key sectors such as banking, IT, pharmaceuticals, FMCG, and manufacturing. A stratified random sampling method has been employed to ensure representation across industries, firm sizes, and deal structures. Data analysis was done using Econometric & Statistical Software for financial and econometric analysis. |
