Abstract | Sports participation plays a crucial role in enhancing physical fitness, discipline, and social interaction, with football being one of the most widely played games worldwide. Football performance is influenced by physical fitness and psychomotor skills, which collectively determine an athlete’s efficiency during competition. The present study investigated selected physical fitness and psychomotor abilities of football players from government and private universities in Karnataka. A total of 120 male intercollegiate players (N = 120), comprising 60 from government universities and 60 from private universities, aged 18–28 years, were purposively selected. Physical fitness was assessed through the 50-yard dash (speed) and standing broad jump (explosive strength), while psychomotor skills were evaluated using an audio-visual reaction timer (reaction time) and the plate tapping test (coordination). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-tests at the 0.05 level of significance. Results revealed significant differences in speed, explosive strength, and reaction time, whereas coordination showed no significant variation between the two groups. The findings suggest that institutional factors may play a role in shaping the physical and psychomotor performance of university-level football players. |
