Profit Optimization Using Power-Efficient Machines with Lever-Flywheel Mechanical Advantage

Abstract | Energy consumption and operational cost are critical determinants of profitability in machine-based industries. Lever–flywheel systems provide an inherent mechanical advantage that reduces input power requirements while maintaining or enhancing output capacity. This study compares two lever–flywheel-based machines of different scales—2 HP (Thakur College) and 0.5 HP (Fr. C. Rodrigues College, Vashi)—in terms of mechanical advantage, energy efficiency, and operational profit. The findings reveal that optimizing machine design for mechanical advantage (D₂/D₁ ratio) significantly lowers power consumption and maximizes profit margins, especially in small- and medium-scale manufacturing. |
