Abstract ART1 is an unsupervised neural network for binary pattern recognition. It uses attention, orienting, vigilance, and reset mechanisms. The vigilance parameter controls stability and detail recall, solving learning instability through adaptive resonance, enabling reliable pattern categorization and classification without supervised training.
