Can we maintain quality while managing quantity? An Analysis of Distance Education Students’ Perspective on quality Education being offered at one University in Central Province of Zambia

Abstract The study investigated Distance Education students' perspective on the quality of education being offered at one university in Zambias' Central Province. Using qualitative approach and Interpretivism paradigm and adopting semi-structured interviews, Focus group discussion and Document analysis, data were generated from 20 former students and four lecturers directing the running of the programmes.Being guided by Transactional and Constructivism theories the findings revealed student's positive perspectives on curriculum relevance, , dedicated and qualified lecturers, , effective teaching and learner support. But had concerns with ICT inefficiencies, learning materials which were often not provided and inadequate infrastructures which were cited to compromise quality and standards. thus it was recommended that while Distance education meets the global benchmarks but the institution needed to sustain excellence.
