| Abstract | Facial recognition has become one of the mostprevalent biometric technologies, facilitating the automatedidentification and verification of individuals through their facialcharacteristics. With the progress in artificial intelligence anddeep learning, facial recognition systems have demonstratedexceptional performance in various practical applications,including surveillance, authentication, and access control. However, despite these advancements, issues such as posevariation, changes in lighting, occlusions, and aging still impactaccuracy and dependability. This paper offers a thoroughliterature review of recent research in the area of facialrecognition, showcasing various methods, techniques, andperformance results reported by scholars. The review highlightsthe transition of facial recognition from conventional techniquesto contemporary deep learning-based systems, identifiesprevalent challenges, and suggests possible avenues for futureresearch focused on creating more robust, efficient, andethically sound recognition models. |
