| Abstract | The automotive industryconsiders the Body in White (BIW) to bethe foundational "soul" of vehiclemanufacturing, representing the corestructural framework that defines avehicle’s safety, performance and aestheticcharacter. In the technical sequence ofautomobile production, the BIW refers tothe stage where the sheet metalcomponents of a vehicle encompassing thechassis, frame and body panels, have been joined together into a rigid unpaintedstructure. This critical phase occurs afterthe stamping of individual parts but beforethe application of primer in the paint shopand the subsequent integration of thepowertrain, chassis sub-assemblies,interior trim and electronic systems. As theskeletal framework, the BIW serves as theprimary load-bearing architectureproviding the essential integrity requiredfor crash performance, structural durability, and refined driving dynamics. |
