| Abstract | Digitalization has emerged as a powerful driver of structural transformation in Indian commerce, reshaping production, distribution, marketing, and consumption patterns. The rapid diffusion of digital technologies such as the internet, mobile platforms, cloud computing, big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and digital payment systems has fundamentally altered the way commercial activities are organized and conducted. This study aims to empirically analyse the impact of digitalization on the structural transformation of Indian commerce by examining changes in business models, market structures, employment patterns, productivity, and the role of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Using secondary data drawn from government reports, industry publications, and empirical studies, the analysis highlights how digitalization has facilitated the growth of e-commerce, platform-based businesses, fintech services, and digitally enabled supply chains, while also exposing challenges related to digital divide, cybersecurity, skill gaps, and regulatory adaptation. The findings suggest that digitalization has contributed significantly to efficiency, inclusiveness, and competitiveness in Indian commerce, although its benefits are unevenly distributed across regions and sectors. The study concludes that supportive policy frameworks, digital infrastructure development, and skill enhancement initiatives are essential to ensure sustainable and inclusive structural transformation of Indian commerce in the digital era. |
